Smiley Library subscribes to numerous online catalogs and databases, providing access to full-text articles and citations from many different disciplines to students and faculty on and off campus. If you are not on the La Fayette campus, you must provide your myCMU login information when prompted.

Catalogs

AVALON Catalog: This catalog includes all materials belonging to the Smiley Memorial Library. It also contains library materials from the University of Central Missouri, Missouri Valley College, Truman State, MACC, and others. Items can be requested from this catalog and will be received in 2-3 days. You will be prompted to create a PIN the first time you request items from AVALON.

MOBIUS Catalog: MOBIUS is an academic library consortium with more than 70 member colleges, universities, and public libraries in the state of Missouri and throughout the Midwest. Most of the documents in this catalog can be requested and delivered to the Smiley Memorial Library or any other MOBIUS library. Items usually arrive within 3-5 days. The MOBIUS catalog also contains a link to Prospector, the catalog of the Colorado Research Alliance, which also offers direct borrowings. To choose AVALON cluster when requesting items.

Physical items retrieved from AVALON or MOBIUS libraries result in $15 fines if items are more than 30 days late.

Reference databases

Credo Reference: an innovative database of major reference works, complete with topic by keyword and visual search. Contains over 395 full-text titles made up of a total of 3.2 million entries all interconnected by millions of links.

Oxford English Dictionary: The OED is widely regarded as the recognized authority on the English language. It’s an unrivaled guide to the meaning, history and pronunciation of 600,000 words – past and present – of the English-speaking world.

Newspapers

Nexis Uni: (formerly Lexis-Nexis University) Nexis Uni offers more than 15,000 news, business, and legal sources from LexisNexis, including U.S. Supreme Court decisions dating back to 1790, with an intuitive interface that offers rapid discovery of all types of content, customization features such as alerts and saved searches, and a collaborative workspace with shared folders and annotated documents.

Current issues and archives of The New York Times: This archive contains all of the content produced by the nation’s preeminent newspaper since it began publishing in 1851. Please contact the library for the username and password for the archive.

Missouri Historical Newspapers: The State Historical Society of Missouri provides digital access to over 100 19th and early 20th century newspapers from across Missouri. Search by title, city or department.

Academic Search Premier: Our largest interdisciplinary database, containing full-text and bibliographic content from a wide range of academic disciplines. This database is the heart of Central Search.

A to Z The World Link: A collection of information on countries around the world. Contains geographical, cultural and political information. Ideal for country reports!

BioOne Complete: a database containing a unique set of high-impact bioscience journals. All content is full text.

Business Source Elite: This database provides full-text coverage of leading business, management, and economics journals and periodicals. These valuable publications cover topics such as accounting, banking, finance, international business, marketing, sales and more.

CINAHL Plus with full text: a database of nursing and allied health literature provided by EBSCO. Some of the indexed articles are full text.

Consumer Health Complete – EBSCOhost: A comprehensive resource for consumer-focused health content. It is designed to meet the information needs of patients and promote a comprehensive understanding of health-related topics. Consumer health completed provides content covering all areas of health and wellness, from traditional medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine.

Criminal Justice Abstracts w/ Full Text: is the leading full-text database for criminal justice research. It offers an essential collection of journals for students and scholars researching criminal justice and criminology.

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ): DOAJ is a community-curated online directory that indexes and provides access to high-quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals.

Education Full-Text: This full-text database covers major fields of education and related fields of study. Education Full Text is an essential source for educational research and is ideal for students, professionals and education policy makers.

ERIC: Education Resource Information Center, contains over 1.3 million records and links to over 323,000 full-text documents dating back to 1966.

Movies On Demand: Outstanding Humanities Movie Content, ABC News, NBC News, PBS, BBC, National Geographic, The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, Bill Moyers, Shopware, The Open University, A&E, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center , Fred Friendly Seminars, Cambridge Educational and many more. FMG Collection of Archival and Newsreel Films: A subset of on-demand films that includes historical film reels and digitized archival film.

Forensic Science: Fully searchable electronic access to Salem Science’s reference books on forensic science.

HeritageQuest Online: A comprehensive database of American genealogical sources, rich in unique primary sources, local and family histories, and finding aids. It offers an essential collection of genealogical and historical sources, with coverage dating back to the 1700s.

Humanities Source: a valuable full-text database covering literary, scientific and creative thought. It provides full text, indexing and summaries of the most reputable scholarly sources in the humanities.

ICE (International Clinical Educators Inc.) Learning Center Video Library: Collections of innovative streaming videos, from real patients and therapists, created to inspire clinical excellence for faculty, students and clinicians in clinical programs. occupational therapy and physiotherapy.

JSTOR Language and Literature: A collection of full-text scholarly journals covering all areas of language and literature. This database is an electronic collection of journals covering the 1990s through 2007.

MasterFILE Premier: This multidisciplinary database provides the full text of nearly 1,700 periodicals with full-text information dating back to 1975.
