Web3 search engine attracts big backers to empower users

A new protocol has bold ambitions to become the stream of Web3.

RSS3 is an open-source information syndication protocol – a search engine that provides a human-readable aggregated feed on every existing crypto wallet.

The project was built on three fundamental ideologies: transparency, decentralization and modularity. The founders say they’re determined to make sure no one authority is in control – and they want to encompass everything that’s happening in this rapidly changing space.

RSS3 claims its product is a convenient way to find out all addresses, with keywords to be added in the near future. Intuitive features let you track every Web3 activity.

Stream was also designed with a focus on security, and unlike other apps, it cuts out spam and phishing to ensure that all information on a wallet is genuine. A good example surrounds vitalik.eth – and the endless stream of random, non-fungible tokens the Ethereum co-founder receives. Thanks to its approach, not all of these activities are included in its feed, which gives users a clearer idea of what is going on.

Moreover, the search functionality allows users to have a clear overview of trends – providing a one-stop-shop where you can follow your favorite crypto addresses.

An excellent user experience above all

According to RSS3, content distribution channels have been increasingly dominated by data superpowers over the past few decades – and all of this has come at the expense of user experience. Why? Because even the best apps struggle to compete with the monopolies.

“The right to create, disseminate and distribute information should not be in the hands of a centralized government. It is the fundamental right of cyber life,” the project says.

While the original RSS was decentralized by design, this project argues that this was not achieved in execution – and a collective revolution is needed that matches what Bitcoin and Ether have done for cryptocurrencies.

Presenting its vision for the future, RSS3 imagines a world where various decentralized content protocols coexist and everyone has full control of the data they produce – and the freedom to express their thoughts without censorship. This will give creators unprecedented levels of freedom, unparalleled ability to monetize their works, and full ownership.

The project also argues that once users have full control of their data, they will have the freedom to vote with their feet and easily switch to apps with the best design and engineering.

Powerful partnerships

RSS3 recently entered into a strategic partnership with Lens Protocol, which offers a range of tools for building the next generation of social media applications. All activities that take place on Lens will be accessible through the RSS3 API, and this partnership is a great demonstration of the composability and interoperability that the Web3 ecosystem is aiming for. Meanwhile, a collaboration with Mask Network allows users to combine their Web3 address and display the activities they have performed with their address on their Web2 profile.

CoinShares, Coinbase Ventures, Dragonfly Capital and Balaji Srinivasan are also among those who have participated in a new round of funding for RSS3 as part of its quest to deliver platformless media and applications.

The RSS3 standard is continuously being developed – and in the future, hackathons are planned and an ecosystem fund will be created. A dedicated DAO will also allow token holders to make collective decisions, and an Ethereum sidechain is expected to be unveiled specifically for RSS3-related activities.

Team members regularly post updates about their work on social media – on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. Additionally, a vibrant community has emerged on Discord as RSS3 vies to change the way the internet works.

Currently, the protocol remains at an early stage, but great things are expected in the future. As RSS3 said in a recent blog post: “Building something big is never easy. Especially when you’re up against established giants.

“However, as developers, we strongly believe in what is right and what must be done. We must devote everything we have to overturning the old world in order to build a new one.”
